Introducing Our Badge System - Featured Image

Until now, collections were required to achieve Whitelisted status before their NFTs were shown on AtomicHub by default. As previously discussed, we realise that this system is not working as intended, and there is a need for fewer restrictions, more clarity, and greater consistency.

With this in mind, we’re taking a more objective approach to what we allow on AtomicHub, and are giving you, our users, the power to direct your own experience.

This will be achieved through our new Badges, which will be rolled out later this week.

NOTE: This update brings fundamental changes to AtomicHub. We strongly recommend all collection owners to read this blog in its entirety.

What is the Badge System?

Our new Badges will completely replace the current Whitelisted/Verified system.

Rather than the current list of checks and requirements, to appear on AtomicHub by default, collections need to pass two basic requirements;

  • Prove that your collection and NFTs have no copyright concerns or prohibited content
  • Pass a KYC check, with an officially-recognised ID and proof of address
  • This will award a collection with the Content and Identity Badges respectively, and will show the collection on AtomicHub by default. These two Badges must be obtained before any others will be displayed.

Once these two Badges have been obtained, rather than a tick, a hexagon icon will display next to the collection name on the marketplace, and on their collection page. When clicked, a modal will open, displaying which Badges that collection has achieved, helping you to make informed decisions on the NFTs you purchase.

These Badges either recognise important milestones and achievements for a collection, or can be applied for.

    What Badges can collections achieve?

At launch, the following Badges will be available:

    • Content (as described above)
    • Identity (as described above)
    • Business – an optional badge, requiring the collection to pass a KYB check
    • Collection Age – displays the age of the collection (>6 months, >1 year, >2 years)
    • Market Volume – displays the listed total market volume (>$100k, >$500k, >$1M)
    • Tree Lover – displays the CO2 offset via the collection (>5 tonnes, >25 tonnes, >50 tonnes)
    • NFT Holders – displays the no. of holders of that collection (>1K, >5K, >10K)
    • Creator’s Choice – given to winners of our Creator’s Choice votes (Gold, Platinum, Diamond)
    • Major Brand – given to collections that include, or have licensed NFTs from, recognised brands

Experienced users can enable “Show non-Badged collections” in their Account Settings, if you’d like to see all collections by default. This can also be achieved by disabling the “Show non-Badged collections” filter on the market.

In practice, what does this mean?

Our new Badge System removes subjectivity from playing any role in what NFTs are shown on AtomicHub, and makes the process of listing your collection on AtomicHub simpler, easier, and crucially, more objective.

In short, it also means the following:

    • AI art is now permissible to be used within NFTs. In the coming weeks, we’ll be rolling out an AI label, which creators will need to apply to all NFTs containing AI art. This ensures that buyers are aware that they’re purchasing AI-generated art at the point of purchase.
    • Stock imagery is now permissible to be used within NFTs, provided the required licences have been obtained. We kindly ask all collections to use stock imagery with care, and to obtain and abide by any licences required.
    • Unlockable Content is now only available to collections that have obtained their Content and Identity Badges. This has been done for safety, as Unlockable Content is hosted on our servers.

    As a reminder:

    • Should any part of your NFTs contain NSFW content, they must be tagged with the NSFW label. This ensures that these NFTs are blurred for users that do not wish to see NSFW content.

I am a collection owner. What do I need to do?

If you have passed a KYC check and your collection is currently Whitelisted, your collection will automatically receive both the Content and Identity Badges. If you have yet to undergo a KYC check, you will need to apply to receive your Content and Identity Badges.

To ease with the transition, we’ll be offering a two-month grace period where Whitelisted collections will be displayed by default alongside collections that have obtained their Content and Identity Badges. Once this grace period is over, Whitelisted collections that have not obtained these Badges will be hidden by default.

We strongly recommend all creators to apply for your Content and Identity Badges, which you can do here.

Please be aware that whilst the process for obtaining Content and Identity Badges is relatively straightforward, there may be a delay between submitting your application and our team getting back to you. Rest assured that we’ll be processing these applications as quickly as possible.

Do the additional Badges affect how my collection is seen?

No. Once a collection has obtained the Content and Identity badges, it will be seen everywhere on AtomicHub. Badges serve to help inform the user of key information about a collection. There is no “higher tier”, as was perceived of Verified collections in the previous Whitelisted/Verified system.

    Will you still blacklist collections?

Yes. Though not exhaustive, collections will be blacklisted for the following reasons:

    • Blatant impersonation of a known entity
    • Blatant copyright infringement (e.g. trying to sell “official” Superman NFTs without a licence)
    • Extreme violence/gore
    • Hard drug use
    • Pornography

If a collection airdrops NFTs to users who have shown little/no recent interest in the collection (“spam”), they will receive a warning. Repeat offenders could see Badges removed, or their collection blacklisted.

    What about rug pulls?

When a collection is blacklisted, this results in their NFTs being hidden from the Inventory of all of their collectors by default. This can lead to confusion – users who may have purchased an NFT from these collections may feel justifiably annoyed that their NFTs no longer have use or value.

Blacklisting a collection should always be a last resort, when all else fails. Our goal is to reduce how often we blacklist collections, and make the reasons clear to our users when there’s unfortunately no other option.

With this in mind, if we receive credible reports from users with valid concerns, we will display a clear warning on their collection page, and at the point of sale on the marketplace. As a rule of thumb, we will not blacklist collections that are inactive, or have concerns outside the reasons outlined above, though we will always reserve the right to blacklist collections in the most severe circumstances.

If you no longer wish to see a particular collection on AtomicHub, you can add it to your personal blacklist within your Account Settings.

Introducing Our Badge System - Hide a Collection AtomicHub 1

The aim of this update is to remove subjectivity from playing a role in which collections are displayed on AtomicHub, make the process of becoming listed on AtomicHub more simple and straightforward, and provide users with the information they need to make informed purchases.

These new Badges remove unnecessary burden from collection owners, and give creators and collectors alike more freedom to view, purchase and trade the NFTs that matter to you. We’re always striving to improve the AtomicHub experience, and we hope this update will help to put the power back into the hands of you, the community.
